June 17 Saturday's USATF-NE Junior Olympic Track & Field Championship at Fitchburg State University was a day of non-stop action, as young athletes age 7-18 took advantage of the relatively cool June temperatures to run, jump, and throw quality results.
Both Sang (Western Mass Distance Project) and Rees (Battle Road TC) led their respective teams to wins on fast the out-and-back course. A.) turned in the top age 40 placings, with highest age-graded marks run by John Barbour (63, GLRR) at 89.39 among the men, and Mimi Fallon (52, B. A.-87.16) and Karen Durante (66, Whirlaway) tied at 87.16 for women. The more than 800 competitors made for more and larger sections than ever, and a dedicated crew of officials and volunteers moved the schedule along without any gaps for close to 10 hours.
A dedicated crew off officials kept the meet on time and provided a quality experience for the participants at 6-18, and the Fitchburg State University track and field program were supportive hosts to the event.
